Dr. Mandel is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons. He specializes in diseases of the breast and abdominal cavity. Roughly half of his practice involves cancer surgery and he is a Fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncologists. Dr. Mandel began his training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He graduated in 1985 and continued there when he began his residency. He transitioned to Yale University where he became Chief resident and completed his surgical training in 1990. Dr. Mandel was full time faculty at Yale until 1992, serving as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and acting Chief of Trauma during the Gulf War. He joined the Overlook staff and moved back to New Jersey in 1992 with his wife and two sons where he is currently the Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery. He is highly involved in training surgical residents and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University
